Grayceon

Listen to “Dreamers”, the closing track to ‘IV’ from San Francisco progressive/experimental trio Grayceon at New Noise Magazine!

LISTEN HERE

Grayceon
The San Francisco/Bay Area has long been regarded as a key hub for cultural diversity and liberated artistic creativity, so it comes as no surprise to observe an ambitious group such as Grayceon rise from the crux of this nerve center and truly flourish. Over the course of 12 years, four proper full-lengths and one EP, this trio comprised of little more than one guitar, one cello, and one set of drums has managed to tackle the full spectrum of heavy music’s extensive clutch of emotions. Pummeling sludgy metal quickly carves into fiery post-punk that’s knotted within epic experimental rock, and it’s all blanketed with the additional allure of ample use of mellow stretches to fully round out the pattern. Words such as “enterprising,” “unconventional” and “dynamic” have all been utilized in an attempt to encapsulate the band’s overall design, but the absolute consensus remains: Grayceon thrives as a splendid anomaly amongst an ever-increasing sea of peers. Grayceon continue to hammer forward and deliver in spades for those who thoroughly enjoy being challenged by a truly progressive band.

For their fourth full-length, Grayceon invoke eight new tracks of cello-lead grooving doom, shape-shifting vocals, dynamically masterful riffs, and weaving rhythms. Jackie Perez Gratz (Giant Squid, Squalus, Amber Asylum, and cellist for Neurosis, Om, Agalloch) delivers vocal ranges from low and luring to sirenesque to fierce yowling; following her cello lead and intertwining between layers of explosive guitars and finesse-filled percussion.

After an almost five year haitus, Grayceon are determined to challenge extreme musics confines. With IV, they have delivered their most beautiful and potent release to date.

Amarok

“Amarok dwell at the most miserable end of sludge and doom, throwing in elements of crushing funeral doom and even veering into crawling, tortured drone à la Khanate.” – Decibel Magazine

Decibel Magazine host the first single from ‘Devoured’ entitled, “VIII Skeleton”.

Amarok
California sludge/doom outfit Amarok debut their first full length in partnership with Translation Loss Records entitled, Devoured. With four epic and expansive tracks spanning almost 70 minutes, Amarok take their listeners on a sorrowful journey of epic proportions. Vast and powerful, Amarok prey on your darkest phobias imparting the perception of nearly drowning, the claustrophobic sensation of being held under water until the last second when released and gasping for air. Each track delivers focused and fearless journeys through harrowing, metallic riffs and rips through bleak, unsettling atmosphere while cataclysmic waves of bass and drums pummel from the inside out. Recorded, engineered, and produced by Sanford Parker (YOB, VOIVOD, EYEHATEGOD) and mastered by James Plotkin (KHANATE, EARTH, PELICAN) Devoured showcases Amarok’s most stand-out and anticipated work to date.

Translation Loss Records are proud to announce the release of WAKE, Misery Rites. The Calgary, Canada grind legion will release their blistering new album, Misery Rites on February 23, 2018

Today, Decibel Magazine kindly premiere the blistering title track, “Misery Rites” and it can be streamed HERE

WAKE, ‘Misery Rites’

Few metal heads would say the name WAKE isn’t synonymous with “relentless”. Over the last decade, consistent ethics, back-to-back tours, and a veritable stream of releases have turned this humble grinding metal outfit into a Canadian institution.

Misery Rites, WAKE’s sophomore album, delivers nine thunderously crushing songs and takes a harsh, introspective, and shattering look into the deep, interdimensional corners of intimate struggle. Vocalist Kyle Ball explains, Misery Rites is a concept that contains personal struggle with depression, addiction and isolation. It also follows a theme of cycles, the main cycle being the metaphorical killing of the person you hate being only to eventually end up back in the same place, just to start the cycle again.” WAKE face their inner torment with fury and weave dark, caustic guitar playing and bludgeoning drums to create the raw, dark terror throughout Misery Rites.

Misery Rites was recorded, mixed, and mastered in 2017 with Dave Otero at Flatline Audio (KHEMMIS, PRIMITIVE MAN, COBALT). WAKE guitarist Rob LaChance reveals their vision for Misery Rites; “musically, the vision of the album was to take what we did on Sowing The Seeds of a Worthless Tomorrow and make it darker and more oppressing.” Rob continues, “I think having Dave Otero on production helped capture a lot of what we were going for.  Dave is a very talented guy and one of the best engineers in the game right now. Recording in Denver also made it easy for us to have our good friend Ethan McCarthy (PRIMITIVE MAN, VERMIN WOMB) do some vocals on a few tracks”.

From early tours leaning on nothing but the DIY release of Surrounded By Human Filth, to multiple Maryland Deathfest appearances, and European tours with Relapse Records artists PRIMITIVE MAN, they released LPs via the inimitable Nerve Altar records. Logging tens of thousands of miles alone in the middle of the USA or with a host of Americas best heavy bands, WAKE have proved that over the course of the decade, their workload and fury are never-ending.  After finishing Misery Rites with Dave Otero at Flatline Audio, an August European outing with BACKSLIDER, and various festival appearances, WAKE carry on the same as usual in 2017 and beyond – scorning the weak, ignoring the trends, and digging heels into the road.  WAKE plan to unleash a full US & Canadian tour, scheduled around the release of Misery Rites.

Misery Rites is scheduled for release on February 23, 2018 and will be available on vinyl, compact disc, cassette, and digital. Vinyl is available in two colours. Black with Heavy White Splatter (limited to 300) and Black Inside of Milky Clear (colour in colour) with Heavy White, Bone White, and Grey Splatter (mail-order exclusive, limited to 200).

WAKE
Translation Loss Records are proud to announce the signing of WAKE. The Calgary, Canada grind legion will release their blistering new album, ‘Misery Rites’ through Translation Loss in February 2018.

‘Misery Rites’ was recorded, mixed, and mastered in 2017 with Dave Otero at Flatline Audio (KHEMMIS, PRIMITIVE MAN, COBALT). WAKE guitarist Rob LaChance reveals their vision for ‘Misery Rites’; “musically, the vision of the album was to take what we did on ‘Sowing The Seeds of a Worthless Tomorrow’ and make it darker and more oppressing. I think having Dave Otero on production helped capture a lot of what we were going for. Dave is a very talented guy and one of the best engineers in the game right now. Recording in Denver also made it easy for us to have our good friend Ethan McCarthy (PRIMITIVE MAN, VERMIN WOMB) do some vocals on a few tracks”.

‘Misery Rites’, WAKE’s sophomore album, takes a harsh, crushing look into the deep, interdimensional corners of intimate struggle. Vocalist Kyle Ball explains, “‘Misery Rites’ is a concept that contains personal struggle with depression, addiction and isolation. It also follows a theme of cycles, the main cycle being the metaphorical killing of the person you hate being only to eventually end up back in the same place, just to start the cycle again. There are a couple songs that fall out of this theme… one is a song about the human arrogance of feeling so important that that there needs to be some sort of afterlife when really we’re nothing but a cosmic joke that will be soon gone and forgotten”.

WAKE have been touring extensively since their 2009 formation. WAKE plan to unleash a full US & Canadian tour, scheduled around the release of ‘Misery Rites’.
